The professor from the UP Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Education (FEd) has been elected by University faculty to serve as their representative to the UP Board of Regents from 2017 to 2018.

The results of the UP System-wide election were submitted by Vice President for Academic Affairs Gisela Concepcion to President Alfredo Pascual on November 28. Pascual opened the selection process on September 21 through Memorandum No. PAEP 16-51.

In her “Plan of Action as Faculty Regent for 2017-2018,” Arinto listed the following as her proposed agenda: (1) promote excellence in teaching, research, and public service; (2) support holistic faculty development in all constituent universities and across the UP System; (3) foster among the faculty a sense of being part of a national community of scholars; (4) encourage academic citizenship and active participation of the faculty in University governance; and, (5) promote faculty welfare through comprehensive provision of faculty benefits.

Arinto has been serving the University for 27 years. She was first appointed as instructor in June 1989 at the Department of English and Comparative Literature, College of Arts and Letters, UP Diliman (UPD). She transferred to UPOU in August 1999.

From 2000 to 2004, she was the director of the UPOU Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services. She was also the director of the UP System Information Office from 1997 to 1999.

Arinto earned her Doctor in Education degree from the Institute of Education, University of London and her Master of Arts in Comparative Literature degree from UPD. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts degree, magna cum laude, from UP Visayas-Tacloban College. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Technology-Based Distributed Learning from the University of British Columbia, Canada.

Arinto’s two-year term as faculty regent begins on 01 January 2017 as the term of the incumbent, Dr. Philip Ian Padilla, ends on 31 December 2016.
