Seven months after the fire that hit the University of the Philippines Faculty Center, the UP Acacia Residence Hall is now the new home to some 250 faculty members and staff who were displaced by the blaze.
On November 7, the inauguration of the new faculty rooms was attended by UP officials, namely, UP President Alfredo E. Pascual and his successor UP Law Dean Danilo L. Concepcion, Vice President for Academic Affairs Gisela P. Concepcion, UP Diliman Chancellor Michael L. Tan, as well as deans and faculty members from the College of Arts and Letters (CAL), Asian Institute of Tourism (AIT), and Asian Center (AC).
The new faculty rooms are part of the four (4) unit, five (5) storey UP Acacia Residence Halls and Law Centennial Dormitory with a total floor area of 10,064.56 square meters, located at Lot 42-C-8, Apacible Ave. corner Laurel Ave. in UP Diliman.

According to the UP Law dean, head of the UP Acacia Residence Halls, and the next UP president, Danilo L. Concepcion, the dormitory was constructed from the UP Law trust fund for the purpose of housing its law students.
UP Diliman Chancellor Michael L. Tan said in his message, “I’m looking forward to what is in store for the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) in terms of infrastructural development, such as the turnover of the whole CAL building to Melchor Hall according to the 1994 Land Use Plan.”
Meanwhile, UP President Alfredo E. Pascual called on the faculty members, staff, and students of UP Diliman to continue upholding the solidarity and harmony of the whole UP System through the One UP philosophy.
