
UP Professor Aileen S.P. Baviera presents her research “Domestic Stakeholders in Philippine Maritime Disputes: Impact and Influence on Foreign Policy” at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
The UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UP CIDS), in partnership with the UP Asian Center, held a public lecture “Domestic Stakeholders in Philippine Maritime Disputes: Impact and Influence on Foreign Policy” by UP Professor Aileen S.P. Baviera on 3 June 2016 at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
Prof. Baviera tackled the implications of maritime disputes involving the Philippines and China. She presented possible policy objectives for the country’s main stakeholders at the national and local levels.
Prof. Baviera specializes on contemporary China studies, China-Southeast Asia relations, Asia-Pacific security, territorial and maritime disputes, and regional integration.
Mr. Chito Sta. Romana, President of the Philippine Association for Chinese Studies (PACS) and Lecturer at the UP Asian Center, and Assistant Secretary Benito B. Valeriano, of the Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs, served as forum discussants. Baviera, Sta. Romana, and Valeriano responded to questions from the audience during the Q&A. Prof. Maria Anna Rowena Layador of the Foreign Service Institute served as moderator.

The lecture is the first in this year’s series under the UP President Edgardo J. Angara (UPPEJA) Fellowship. The UPPEJA Fellowship aims to “promote high-level policy discussions and research on topics that address national development goals and imperatives.”
