
An Iskolar ng Bayan topped the July 2024 Licensure Examination for Interior Designers, according to a recently released announcement from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). Maria Ivanka B. Añonuevo of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman secured the top spot with a rating of 85.80%.
Aside from Añonuevo, several graduates of UP Diliman were also in the top 10 of successful examinees: Kaye Patricia M. Picazo, at third with a 85.25% rating; Ruwayna C. Alqaseer-Del Rosario, at fourth with a 85.05% rating; Mikaela Jamela A. Alba, at sixth with a 84.65% rating; and Glenn Cultura, at seventh with a 84.60% rating.
UP Diliman fielded 18 examinees who took the exams for the first time, of whom 15 passed, resulting in an 83.33% passing rate. Including those who repeated the exam, the overall passing rate for UP Diliman is at 72.73%–significantly higher than the overall passing rate for the examinees, which is pegged at 29.75%. Out of a total 400 examinees from all over the country, only 119 passed the examinations.
The Licensure Examination for Interior Designers is administered by the Board of Interior Design of the Professional Regulation Commission in the National Capital Region and Cebu. Under the Philippine Interior Design Act of 1998, the profession entails the planning, designing, specifying, supervising, administration, and direction in the functional and aesthetic arrangement and development in the interiors of buildings and residences. Under the law, the practice of interior design is also expected to aid in the enrichment of the quality of life.
