More than 125 members of the University of the Philippines (UP) community, comprised of faculty, REPS, employees, students, and residents, and spearheaded by the All UP Academic Employees Union (AUPAEU), gathered in front of the UP Diliman Quezon Hall on October 5 to mark World Teachers’ Day and start the month-long celebration of the UP Systemwide Academic Union Month.
AUPAEU officers, UP President Angelo Jimenez, UP Faculty Regent Carl Marc Ramota, and leaders of the multisectoral alliance delivered solidarity messages. Union members highlighted the campaigns for: democratic governance and academic freedom in UP, salary upgrading, higher fringe benefits, additional plantilla items and regularization of employees, among other issues. Participants also joined the Zumba session, solidarity breakfast, and raffle held during the program.
